Caramel Apples

I've always wanted to do one of those blog entries when you take pictures of a project in progress. I've never done it until now!

Here's what you need to do to make caramel apples:

Find a small boy who loves to play with water at the sink and ask him to wash the apples in water and baking soda so that the caramel will stick better (stick to the apples that is, and not to the small boy)

Put sticks in all the apples. We used big craft sticks and small macintosh apples.

Mix 2 cups of sugar, 2 sticks of butter, a can of sweetened condensed milk and a cup of corn syrup.

Boil it until bubbly and it reaches 244 degrees (I have no idea why 244 and not 240 or 250!)

remove it from the stove and stir in 1 tsp of vanilla and then dip the apples and turn to coat

Then sprinkle them with whatever you want. We used chocolate sprinkles :) Put them on buttered wax paper to cool and then store them in the fridge (or eat them all immediately they are that good!)

Those look so good. I think we may need to try some, and then give all but 3 away so we don't eat them all :)
